The Collective’s analysis

Prevention is a stated policy priority in the five-year presidential mandate for which several measures have been implemented. However, we can see that the access to screening for respiratory diseases needs to be strengthened to identify all affected patients. To become an effective prevention system, the French health model still needs to evolve regarding breathing tests, including technical and financial aspects, but also regarding the training and extension of the competences of health professionals, in particular nurses and pharmacists.

Our priorities for 2023

Include the performance of spirometry breathing tests in prevention consultations at the key ages set out in Article 29 of the Social Security Financing Act for 2023.

Train and equip school and occupational doctors to perform breathing tests during medical examinations at school and at work.

Train allied health professionals and pharmacists on breath measurements and give them the technical means to perform them to facilitate the identification of patients at risk of developing respiratory diseases.
